Pit Stop 3 involves asking students to identify the “qualifier” from within a sentence. A qualifier is probably a new concept for students. You can say “A qualifier is a word that scientists use when they aren’t sure if their claim is always true. Qualifiers are words like ‘sometimes,’ ‘often,’ ‘rarely,’ or ‘might’. Qualifiers can also indicate when something is certain, such as ‘always’ or ‘never.’”
Players choose the qualifier by clicking the correct word in the sentence. If they are correct, the water balloon will burst and they will move on. If they are incorrect, the balloon will drop and they will have to try again. They will continue until they get three correct answers.
Once they have identified three correct qualifiers, players will return to the race and drive to the next pit stop.
